PROJECT
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Our short film “El telar” tells the tense story of Arni, a woman whose light has been extinguished by the narcissistic personality of her husband, Levián. The plot revolves around a crucial dinner where Levián, a “wolf among sheep” obsessed with appearances, plans to steal a family jewel from Acacio, a naive guest. However, the story shows us how the perfect victim can change her destiny: Arni will discover that in order to survive, she must stop being the docile sheep and take the scissors in hand to literally cut the threads that bind her.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
It is a drama with hints of psychological thriller that builds its narrative through a strong visual and symbolic atmosphere. The short film relies on careful art direction where the loom is not just a decorative object, but the center of the protagonist's world. The visual proposal contrasts the false elegance of Levián's wardrobe with the worn-out reality of the house, using elements such as wool, blood, and the gold of shearing scissors to create an aesthetic that transitions from domestic oppression to visceral and bloody liberation.
HOW DID IT COME ABOUT?
The idea stems from the deconstruction of the classic metaphor of the “wolf in sheep's clothing” intertwined with a reinterpretation of the myth of the Cyclops from the Odyssey (Canto XII). In our version, Levián embodies the greed of those who seek to devour and possess, but this time the Cyclops is the victim of that excessive greed. Penelope, for her part, rebels against the threads of fate that traditionally confined her to waiting and weaving, becoming the agent of her own liberation. We wanted to explore the power dynamics in an abusive relationship, but with a twist on the traditional roles. It arises from the intention to use rural and artisanal elements (spinning, shearing) to tell a modern story about narcissism and emancipation. The project seeks to transform submission into strength, using the very tools that represent “sheep work” (scissors) as the ultimate weapon of poetic justice.
CHARACTERS
A 33-year-old man, attractive and obsessed with his image of success and elegance. He is a narcissistic predator who lives beyond his means and camouflages himself as a “wolf among sheep.” Beneath his charming facade, he is violent, greedy, and manipulative, using others solely for his own personal gain.
LEVIÁN
Salva Duyat
A 27-year-old woman, unkempt and dull in appearance, “docile as a sheep, nervous as a ram.” Her vitality has been consumed by her husband's psychological abuse, obsessively taking refuge in her loom and silence. However, beneath that apparent submission, she hides the ability to strike a decisive blow in order to survive.
ARNI
Lorena Pérez
A 75-year-old man, noble, naive, and lonely. Of humble origins and hard-working hands, but owner of a family treasure (the golden scissors). His desire for companionship and his trusting nature make him the perfect target for Levián's scam.
ACACIO
Javier Pineros
